Writing Goals and Objectives for the Next Year

Towards goals and objectives; year by year, step by step

After having defined your long term vision, you should annually stop and think about those intermediate goals and objectives, which will help you to achieve the goals set in your life goals vision. I really feel strongly for writing goals and objectives on paper. It is actually fun to think about the intermediate steps annually. You can consider this process (taking 15 minutes to one hour of your time) as a mental retreat for example after Christmas – then you will be focusing your energy on the next year anyway!

The foundations are a bit similar to those of the vision. However, the steps are much smaller. Here are some examples of writing goals and objectives for the next annum:

Health goal:

  • Lose 5 kg (11 lbs)
  • Exercise at least twice a week

Wealth goal:

  • Invest 5 % of your net income each month

Social goal:

  • Remember all birthdays of your family members and closest friends this year

Personal goal:

  • Attend at least 20 French lessons

For some, this kind of goal setting might sound even boring and too systematic. But the truth is that only by planning ahead you may reach your goals.

If you think about a successful person and his/her achievements in life, probably this success is not a result of coincidence. On the contrary, it is most likely that it took years of hard, systematic and goal-oriented work to achieve this success.

And besides, drawing up your annual goals is easy – just use this sheet when writing your goals and objectives:
